Nehemiah Autism Center is a new NGO that started work on Jun 16, 2011. We got our license on 31 August 31, 2010, from the concerned government agency.

Autism in Ethiopia
Sufficient statistical evidence on the extent and prevalence of ASD is not currently available in Ethiopia. Though we are unable to quantify the autistic population in Ethiopia, we note that, as of the writing of this proposal, there are more than 1000 children on the waiting list at the only available autistic center in Ethiopia. We also believe that there is a reasonable means of estimating the prevalence of ASD in our country. Since Autism is found worldwide and amongst all nations, nationalities, and social classes, Ethiopia is not an exception. And, if one in every 100 children is diagnosed with autism in the U.S.A, we estimate that, with Ethiopia’s population of more than 80 million people, more than 600,000 children are suffering from autism and related developmental disorders, with no access to rehabilitation, education, or training.

Who are we?
We are a group of families with autistic children. We were unable to send our autistic children to a school, that can teach and treat children, due to a lack of space in then, the only available autistic center in Ethiopia. So our option was especially for mothers, to abandon our job and stay at home to look after our children with no hope insight. Due to this, we have now opened the second center in Ethiopia. We are now trying to reach so many autistic children who are deprived of their rights to education and rehabilitation because of no availability of schools and society’s lack of awareness.

Our Center
Nehemiah Autism Center has a license from the Charities and Societies Agency, which is a concerned governmental office and has rented a house to receive autistic children. At this time we are helping and treating Autistic children in our center. Our NGO is a non-profit and a non-governmental organization
