Key program Focusses of the Organization:  

  • The short-term institutional care is intended to serve children with post-polio paralysis; it provides physical rehabilitation when surgical intervention plaster of Paris and physiotherapy treatments are required to rehabilitate polio victims whose age is 7-15 years. The center provides pre-and postoperative care, A total of 160 children are admitted annually to the center. The average stay of children at the center is six months. The rehabilitation center has its own orthopedic workshop for producing orthotic materials to enhance the mobility of children and youth with disabilities. Tricycle production has been also initiated for severely disabled adults and youths so as to create independence mobility for such section of the community.
  • The Mobile Rehabilitation Team of Cheshire Services Ethiopia provides essential follow up care for disabled children and young people in their own localities and looks after more than 6500 patients annually, providing them with walking aids such ns crutches, braces, orthopedic shoes and walking frames twice a year in most cases. Through this program 36 outreach locations are being covered in 9 regions and Administrative councils.
  • Under the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programs over 650 children with cross and sever disabilities in Addis Ababa, Harar, Dire Dawah and Deder are being given rehabilitation services, through exercise therapy with the involvement of persons with disability themselves, parents and the community members. Awareness raising activities are being conducted in the community and schools as a prevention strategy of disabilities. Socio economic activities are undertaken in order to empower persons with disabilities.
  • Training: The organization also conducts short-term training for junior and senior rehabilitation workers CBR planners and mangers. The training is aimed at building the capacity of sister NGOs implementing CBR programs and government partners.
